The team Vandermaesen/Aerts drove from 1977 to 1990 mainly in the Belgium championship. After years with Opel Kadett GT/E, Ascona, Ascona 400 and Manta 400 they had a Mercedes 190E 2,3-16V built by Snobeck Racing in France for the years 1986 to 1988, which often resulted in a top ten result.
Almost 30 years after Julien Aerts had finished his active career, the rally virus struck again and together with his son Filip he built a copy of the Mercedes in which he so often sat as a co-driver in Belgium in the 80s. The copy is so precise that the 190E today has a central wheel nut instead of the usual single wheel bolts.
